Experienced Leadership

David P. Touhey is an accomplished Executive with an impressive +20-year career that includes advancement into increasingly demanding leadership roles based major successes in the event & entertainment industry. With a solid history of excelling amidst constantly changing dynamics, he is as much at home orchestrating complex logistics as he is ensuring efficient operations of 4 venues for Monumental Sports & Entertainment. His successes include leading Capital One Arena to maintain its rank as one of the Top 20 buildings in the world.

Most recently with Monumental Sports & Entertainment, David has made key contributions serving as President of Venues. He was hand selected to provide visionary leadership with direct accountability for IT, Facility Resources, and the Technical & Broadcast Operations teams at the Capital One Arena, EagleBank Arena, MedStar Capitals Ice plex, and Medstar Wizards Performance Center. His successes include negotiating strategic deals that reaped solid financial and political rewards while driving +$65M in construction and capital improvement projects.

Prior to this in 2010, David was tapped to become the SVP & General Manager of the Verizon Center (now Capital One Arena) for Monumental Sports & Entertainment. In this role, David provided strategic direction for a restructured NBA and NHL venue/organization with new ownership. During this time, he also developed and executed a 5-year Capital Improvement Strategic Plan.

Previously, David served as a Vice President of Booking & Entertainment for Washington Sports & Entertainment. This role challenged him to rapidly increase event revenue YoY by producing, negotiating, and booking new business in a massive market for all WSELP facilities. Accordingly, he brought a wide array of innovative and premier events to building, in coordination with NBA, NHL, WNBA, and Georgetown schedules.

Before his tenure at Monumental Sports & Entertainment, David was hired by the University of Miami Convocation Center as an owner’s representative during construction of a $50M, +7500-seat multi-purpose arena. After successfully opening the building and attracting outside events to the venue, he oversaw all operational aspects of this new
on-campus facility.

Earlier in his career David joined the James L Knight Center in Miami as their General Manager. After only 6 months, he took over all aspects of this underperforming 4,000-seat venue and 20,000 sq. ft. exhibition hall and completely turned it around.

David launched his career upon obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts’ Isenberg School of Management – Mark H McCormack Dept. of Sport Management. He went on to earn his Certified Venue Executive – International Association Venue Manager.

In his free time, David has given back as an Adjunct Faculty member at George Washington University’s School of Business Sport Management Program, as well as Georgetown University’s School of Continuing Studies, Sports Industry Management. Also noteworthy, David has been the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the 2017 Sports Business Journal Power Player – Venues.
